The Start Line Course - point of entry into the program

This is where all the fun begins!!
During the Start Line course you'll experience riding at an indoor world class cycling stadium. Participants will learn proper ways to steer and maneuver on a bike.  The skills learned transfer to riding on the track and safer riding outside in your neighborhood. Attending the Start Line course does NOT require a desire to race - only the desire to have fun on a bike!

Covid Related Guidelines

  • December 12, 2022 update: The Velo Sports Center is following Cal/OSHA guidelines.  Wearing a mask is no longer required inside the VSC building.  Hand sanitizer is positioned throughout the building.

What you'll learn.

Participants will learn drills to improve their bicycle steering and handling skill with an emphasis on group riding and spatial awareness.  Here's a list of what's covered during a session>>

Where to Meet at the VSC

Meet for your Start Line class inside the VSC building.  Once inside the stadium, wait on the concourse at the top of the track.  A CCF coach will gather parents and athletes together for a group introduction.  After the introduction, athletes will be escorted to the infield to begin the on-bike segment of the class.  Parents remain in the spectator seats during class.  Directions to VSC>>

What to Wear and Bring

  • Wear a t-shirt and shorts (cycling jersey and shorts are not required for this class)
  • Do not wear long pants, as the pant leg fabric may get caught in the bike chain
  • Wear closed-toe exercise type shoes
  • Bring a bottle of water
  • Bring your own bike helmet.
Shared helmets not allowed post-covid.  We may have a few pre-worn helmets available for purchase if you need one.  Email us with your request if you're interested. connie@conniecycling.com
  • Regarding cycling shoes and pedals:  Cycling shoes are NOT a requirement. If your athlete already uses cycling shoes with clip-in style pedals, then bring both the shoes and pedals to your first class.  Your instructor must approve the equipment for use during classes and will explain the necessary details.  Plan to wear your regular closed-toe exercise shoes during the first class.
